A New Spin on Towing

A New Spin on Towing
Ron Ruiz

Picture this . . . your car breaks down, so you dial the number of your local towing service. Instead of a greasy, jump suited driver showing up, a smiling, body-builder in spandex comes to your rescue. He offers you a refreshing bottle of mineral water and one free call from a cellular phone.

No, it’s not a beautiful daydream. Thanks to Christine and Giovanni, being stranded was never so much fun. The married couple own a towing company, with a twist!

It all started one day when Christine and Giovanni’s car was stuck in traffic for hours. But when the tow finally came, the drivers were rude. The couple realized that the towing industry needed to change its image.

Christine recruits drivers for the business. She points out, however, that she is concerned with more than looks. The hunks must have great personalities, too. So far, their company is getting up to 10 calls a day for tows, and Christine is considering franchising the operation.

Not surprisingly, they’ve had requests from men for women drivers . . .

Here’s an example of adding a twist to an ordinary idea or business. Seen this before? While this formula isn’t new, it’s a great way of making your business stand out.

Make Your Little Girl’s Dreams Come True
Ron Ruiz

Cindy has launched a business that’s a place where all little girls’ dreams come true. Her company offers tea, birthday and special theme parties, etiquette classes, hairstyling and makeup sessions, and a lot of one-of-a-kind gifts.

Cindy wanted to create a niche market for little girls and wanted her business to be totally unique. She got the idea for her specialty business after going to a tea party with her 3-year-old daughter Alyssa while on tour with her husband. Three years after it started, the company has as many as 500 franchise requests from would-be businesses owners around the U.S.

The teahouse, which resembles a Victorian cottage, is the “heart” of the party business. The full-service parties are designed so mom doesn’t have to do anything. Parties are themed to include every aspect, from decorations to food to costumes.Birthday parties include three courses with a cream puff, specialty sandwiches and a birthday cake. The birthday girl gets a heart-shaped cake, and her friends get miniature cakes served on real china.

When it comes to their “little princesses,” many parents are willing to spare no expense. This story is a great example of a niche market that caters to childhood fantasies with custom services and products.

Cindy built a business around her little girl, and now she’s sitting back and watching it grow! By specializing in a great niche, she’s built a profitable business from the ground up.

22-Year-Old Trash into Successful Business

Filed Under Inspiration, Unusual Business Ideas, Offline Success Stories

Phillip was helping Mike, his dad, clean out the garage when they stumbled onto a new business. Mike knew the idea would work, but it was Phillip that made it reality.

Fast-forward the story two years later and Phillip’s business is selling advertising space on placemats for places in Colorado and Arizona. That means they supply 400,000 placemats with advertising per month. In addition they have created a pizza box lid toppers.

During his first full year of business he grossed $60,000. Not bad for having just completed classes at a community college and running this from his home. Profits were expected to more than double the following year.

How does it work?

Philip sells ads to around 12 local and national companies. The 8 inch by 11-inch sheets are out-sourced to a printing company that prints the ads on environmentally friendly recycled paper with soy-based ink. The placemats are then delivered to a central distribution point for his clients.

Phillip and his unique business have been featured in Colorado newspapers, and Home Business Magazine. He has received hundreds of emails and phone calls from people wanting to learn how they can do the same type of business in their area. Being the savvy entrepreneur that he is, Phillip has written a How to Manual. The manual is 56 pages long and is described as a case study of how a young man took a piece of paper and turned it into a successful business.

Adventure Bachelor Parties

At age 29, Darren knows a few things about bachelor parties.

He also knows that bachelor parties were becoming routine and not very much fun.

But for his friend Mike’s bachelor party, Darren had an idea. He thought that they should go white-water rafting. So they picked a location they could all fly into and went rafting.

Things went so well that Darren put up a Web site for bachelor trips.

This year, they have 40 bachelor trips planned to 30 locations around the U.S. All are outdoor adventures?horseback riding, rafting, mountaineering . . . And, no, there won’t be any strippers.

According to Darren, the best part about the trips is making memories.

Darren plans every detail for the guy-adventure trips. He goes to different places in town: the bars, hotels, and outdoor adventures and plans the weekend trip. He tries to make it affordable. The trips are normally $300-$600 per person not including airfare.

This creative business is yet another example of a great business niche. No doubt a lot of future brides will be appreciative of this new business.

Do you have experience in a field that you can package and sell to others?

Can You Sell Sleep?

A salon is selling seven private chambers to tired New Yorkers for twenty to forty minute naps.

Will Americans pay for sleep? According to IMS Health, a healthcare research firm, Americans spent over $3 billion on prescription sleeping medications last year. We also spent $20 billion on special beds, special pillows, white noise machines, etc.

A company that complies spa directories says they foresee “sleep” as a spa trend for the future. And spas aren’t the only ones selling sleep.

Nicolas, the entrepreneur, thinks there is a bright future for his sleep salons.

What a great marketing lesson. Just like people are now willing to pay for bottled water when they can have it free from the tap; quality sleep is now something you need to buy.

What other free items can you package in a different way and get people buy them?
