Teach Kids Business To Break Poverty
Teach Kids Business To Break Poverty
Imagine a company that teaches children how to break free from poverty by teaching tenacity and industry, all while having fun making chocolate. One woman did.
What would a business woman with over 25 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing industries move to one of the nation?s most impoverished and remote areas of the nation?
Meet Elaine, a woman who was at ease working with billion dollar multi-national companies, who now works with 35 Navajo and Ute children ages 8 thru15.
This small business run by a bunch of kids and mentored by a grown-up is now grossing around $20,000 a year. But that amount of money pales in comparison with the knowledge and self-confidence that these kids will take away with them. Their business motto is: Luscious Chocolate. . . noble cause.
School is the children?s first priority so they only work in the chocolate studio on Fridays and Saturdays. The children don?t just make chocolate: they deal with customers, manage the Web site and balance the books. Needless to say, their favorite job is making the candy.
Elaine has noticed a big change in the kids since she started working with them. They started out watching television and playing video games in their spare time and now they are planning business deals. They are also preparing to attend college and want to open their own businesses some day. It is affecting their tribes.
In the mean time, the children stay busy making chocolate. The bottom line is that they make good chocolate.
How can you turn an idea of chocolate into a product for sale? What about another edible item? For more details on this story and other business ideas go to:
